This is my year to jump.

Or dive. Or whatever, but I’m going headfirst into it.

I’ve held myself back from doing things that I’ve wanted because I’m afraid of taking that plunge. I’m afraid I won’t be received well. I’m afraid that I won’t fit in. I’m afraid that I’ll fail. I’m also afraid that my expectations are never realistic.

But really, what do I have to lose? Pretty much nothing. So why am I afraid? Old habits die hard, I suppose.

So, I leave you with a quote, from the wise and wonderful Madonna.

“There’s only so much you can learn in one place
The more that you wait, the more time that you waste

I’ll work and I’ll fight till I find a place of my own
It sways and it swings and it bends until you make it your own”

From the song “Jump

This has been my mantra of sorts for the last few years. And I’m going to keep in mind this year when I jump into the local artist community, and make new friends on and off-line, and ignore that stupid voice in my head that tells me that I have nothing to contribute. Because I do. And I’m jumping in.

this is a really great mantra. especially the first line. i feel ready to make a big move and just start fresh somewhere.

Doni, thanks for your comment… you know, it would be REALLY hard for me to pinpoint where my favorite mac n cheese dish is from, i’ve gotten it a lot of times from so many places!!! this one was probably in the top 3 though, it was so tasty!

I think sometimes we underestimate what it actually takes to get going in the direction we want.

Heart you. So much. You are so brilliant and creative and I’m excited to see you jump! We should still get tattoos together. Yours can say Jump. Mine will say Swandive. <3

Hi Michelle – great post!

There is a poem by Kobi Yamada called “SHE” that I just love. I think this line resonates well here: “She took the leap and built her wings on the way down. Celebrate her DARING.”

Oof, I’ve been silently reading all these for the last month and I just had to jump out of my reader because this one really hit home. I have the same voice that says, “You have nothing to contribute.’ I don’t who she is, but she needs to shadap– because really, we all have these beautiful, unique voices that need to be heard. Good luck, Michelle!

Doesn’t that voice just suck? I can’t believe I listened to it for so long.

It’s definitely time for me to be done with that voice.
