Ok, so this isn’t posted on Friday, but you’ll forgive me as the video was shot on Friday, and I didn’t get a chance to edit it until the weekend. Alas – in this video, I answered these two questions:
- You travel a lot, but moving to a whole new place seems to be a different beast- is there anything about moving to Boulder that has surprised you? What has been the best discovery and most unexpected thing about the move for you?
- Of what and where are your tattoos?
A couple of notes on the video:
- I say “um” too much, so here’s hoping that gets eliminated with some practice.
- I should probably talk more slowly.
- I kind of said Boulder was half tech, half yoga. There’s actually a ton of overlap, as people here have a know how to balance and know how to rock that work/play thing. I just feel fortunate enough to be tapped into two great communities that nurture my strongest loves.
- The Hebrew word for the “Jesus fish,” as I described it is Ichthys and deserves a bit more of an explanation than I offered in the video. I got the tattoo when I was 19, and as I was nervous about my first permanent inking, I wanted something that no matter what I believed as I grew older, would be a testament to how I got there. I was pretty much raised in a Southern Baptist church – active, attending a few times a week, engaged in youth group, all of it. I’ve since opened my worldview to be much more The Universe and karma and such, and much less “Thou shalt not,” but it’s absolutely an influential part of how I grew up and into this woman I am today, and I am forever grateful for that love and structure that surrounded my childhood (and now grateful for the love and openness that surrounds me now). :)
- When I mentioned my third tattoo, I mentioned Nicole. That’s Nicole, of Nicole is Better, and she shares the infinity symbol on her opposite wrist. See?

- Satya – “Truth” – means so, so much to me and was inked on my wrist after a time where I was fiercely challenged to define and defend what my personal truth was – we all go through that at some point, right? Honoring who I am, how I relate to people and my world, and what I stand for – this was defined in the last couple of years, challenged, and then ultimately strengthened beyond belief.. Satya is truth, at it’s deepest level – to me anyway.
- The lighting in this video was absolutely perfect, wasn’t it? We (BF and I) filmed this outside early (around 7AM) one overcast morning here in Boulder, and I love the softness of all of it.
Answers to the other formspring questions that were submitted are answered here! Thanks for taking the time to do that – I loved the submissions and am now taking new ones for Friday’s blog post. Ask me anything here or check out the widget in my sidebar. Enjoy!

So lovely to see your face again, even if it is on video!
Thank you! Eventually I'll be less awkward
This was a great idea, Doni. I liked you adding another layer to your already awesome blog. Kudos to the camera man, too!
Thank you, Katie! I'm hoping it becomes a pretty cool regular feature and teaches me some things about being on video – thanks for the support!
You are adorable and I love your ink!
Thanks, it's addictive – I want more!
Great video and I love the questions/answers!
Thank you! Submit your own if you'd like for next (this?) week's chitty chat.
Tech geek questions: Was this filmed with your Flip HD? Is the aspect ratio 4:3 by default? Can you make it widescreen and HD-y? I'm looking at buying a Flip when I come back home for a similar thing, so I'm curious to know more. Thanks for the vid!
-John
Stay tuned. It was not a FlipHD, I set the 4:3 when I uploaded the video via iMovie because I wanted it play-able on multiple viewer-things, so I'm guessing you can make it widescreen and HD-y?
I DO have a FlipHD though, and maybe we'll shoot this week's on that one so we can check out the difference – safe travels home, friend!
Well since I Missed you in Vegas this last year, this is a good substitute (for now!). You're so lovely, did you know that!?
And you're SO sweet!
This is so fantastic! You are so adorable, and the video really brings your blog to life. Love it, and I can't wait for Friday!
Thank you so much! Can't wait, eh? Submitting a question, love?
Love the video!
And I'm anonymous formspring question asker #1- I loved hearing about your new home
Aww, I love knowing that was your question! Boulder has been very, very good to me
DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THIS MAKES ME MISS YOU!? ugh. i’m going to go bury my head and cry now.
also, you’re adorable and i loved hearing all of this. <3
NO TEARS. I see you October. Wee!
First, you are adorable. And second, I love that your tattoos have such powerful meaning to you. I wish I could say the same. My last 2 do but my first one I just wanted a heart and it's generic and I'm sure hundreds of other people have the same thing. Oh well.
Is it creepy if I watch this over and over? Because I'm going to so I don't have to miss your face so much!!
Enjoyed the video…….I get to see you, and hear you and all. Makes me wish you were way closer.
love ya,
Ma
I miss and love you too, ma.
