I had this moment in Vegas this weekend. Well, I had a lot of moments, but this one in particular seemed to sort of… embody what this whole blogging-meetup-travel-community-family thing feels like.
I was sitting poolside with Lacey, Katelin, Rachel, and some of the other ladies, and we were talking about how cute Ashley is pregnant and how cute Erin is pregnant, and so happy that Rachel‘s man is home from overseas, and basically catching up on each other and all of these friends that weren’t only our mutual friends, but were long-time friends. We didn’t just study up on this online group, didn’t just recently stalk the blogs of these girls, but these friendships have now been years in the making.
In the few years we’ve known each other, we’ve traveled the world, backpacked the country, gotten engaged, gotten married, are having babies, moved across the country, finished college, started new jobs, ended and started new relationships, and done so many other things miles apart, but somehow still held together.
And while we might have all never been in the same place together at the same time, our hearts are bound in this unique way that makes us one really giant group that goes beyond anything you can try to describe with the words “online social network,” or even “community.” We’ve got a big family thing going here, and it’s amazing to be watching these relationships grow from blog readers to commenters to friends to offline, actual, friend-friends who become some of the most important people in our lives.
Bloggers in Sin City 2.0 – aka #BiSC
Ok, enough segue.
This weekend in Vegas was absolutely no exception. Talk about one really giant group! Last year, we had 26 bloggers in Sin City all heart-full, slumber-party-esque. This year we had 70 bloggers on the strip, still heart-full, but on a much bigger scale.
The best part is, we had the opportunities to really blow out a night with that giant group, and we had plenty of time to run off in smaller groups, to sit poolside with 2-3 others at a time, to walk to breakfast with a roommate, or to grind on the dance floor with everybody (PS LiLu and Ben are some seriously fierce dancers). The trip was really what you made it, in fact – somewhere in Utah or even already in Nevada, I set my intention for the weekend, telling Chelsea that my one and only expectation and resolution was to go in with an open heart.
Turns out, that’s what everyone else decided too. Some came, not knowing what a big blogger meetup would entail, and walking away with new relationships, new memories, and for some – new toys (thanks again to @toywithme for your killer sponsorship!).
In birds’ eye highlights
It was thrilling to see Alex jump heads first into the 20SB community this year, and to make the splash in Vegas this weekend. I adored meeting girls I’ve “known” forever, like Akirah, Gooseberried and Stacey. Relationships with Amy and Becca and Smalls have been budding for months, and it was amazing to finally get to hug them and girl talk with them and just spend some real time with them. My roommates – Jenny, Jamie, Nicole, and Chelsea – include solid friends of mine for some time now, and it was awesome to finally meet “Nicole’s Jess,” who I’ve heard about for as long as Nicole and I have been friends. And as always, it’s great to see the Chicago bloggers, the Cali bloggers, the East Coast bloggers and all of the other bloggers again in one place for a weekend of amazing.
Road trip bonding
Perhaps one of the best decisions I made about the whole trip was ditching the first leg of my originally-planned flight and road-trip the 11 hours out West with Chelsea instead. She’s my sister-friend, and we’ve been vying for some girl-time, talking over and over about how we just want to get away together for a little while. Hello: opportunity. So, I buckled in and we drove west from Denver/Boulder all the way to the beautiful strip in Las Vegas. I had never seen that part of the country, and just drank in the totally varied beauty between the mountains and the desert. I even made time for some desert yoga at a rest stop in Nevada!

VIP friends and VIP treatment
In a nutshell, thanks to blogging and the community that’s formed around it, I have found some of the deepest and most amazing relationships, some of the best vacation memories, and exposure to some of the best brands and companies who value the connections bloggers form and then reach a very appreciative audience (us!).
Speaking of sponsors and all – I’ve raved before about some awesome opportunities we’ve had as bloggers, and this weekend literally blew that out of the water, thanks to Nicole and her fierce party planning. We had an amazing hook-up at the Flamingo, a crazy-hilarious scavenger hunt thanks to Harrah’s, a fun poolside mixer sponsored by Stratejoy, and super swank VIP bottle service at Heart Bar at Planet Hollywood.
If you want to jump in on any of the goodness we got:

While I won’t recap the weekend detail-by-detail, I will leave you with some photos to tell the rest of the stories.
In a nutshell, I… continued my love affair with close friends

… and cheese plates

… and new friends

I spent some time with some of 20SB’s oldest members:

and welcomed some of the new ones:

In summary
We love the hook-ups and the bottle service and the 32 oz margaritas, but we’re in this for the people and for the relationships we’ve formed by opening up our own hearts to share our lives and to welcome in the lives of new friends that come along the way.
A lot’s changed in the year since we were there last, but one thing’s for sure – the people in my life, blog-friends, Minnesota friends, family, whomever – are what fuels me, what blesses and enriches my life so much, and what make these kinds of opportunities that much more sweet.
Until next year, my lovelies!

That tattoo + Twitter handle picture is my favorite. Well, except for all the other awesome pictures. Let’s start planning my trip to visit you. Like, right now.
Ready, set, Colorado, GO.
Oooh oooh me too!!!!
My vagina is just starting to feel normal again after all the dancing.
Also…OLDEST MEMBER? You best mean earliest….
Cept not for Tia. She’s actually old.
(Oh god she’s going to hit me.)
Earliest! Sorry! Earliest! You’re a baby, no way would I call you old.
It was so fun to meet you! I’m looking forward to more friend stuff in the future. MWAH!
AH, so fun to meet you! Kisses back, lover
Joining 20SB was one of the best decisions (Even though I have been AWFUL lately and omg, I need to log back on there).
I really hope to be there next year and of course, hope to be a part of the family by getting to know you guys more.
Still so sads I missed it. But like I said, next year ITS ON!
YES, yes it is – so is July!
I adore that desert yoga picture.
So yeah. Vegas. It happened, and it’s over, and that’s sad! I miss you, but I look forward to our friendship developing more over time. You are a doll, and you make my heart happy.
This is one of the best recaps of vegas I’ve read so far. While I havent been to Vegas for either blogger gathering, the friendships I’ve made through blogging are some of the strongest friendships I have. I love that we all know each other (or know each other through someone else). To me, thats what blogging is about.
A revelation moment — I would expect nothing less from you!
But you are spot on with calling it a family. From following each others’ blogs we have the ability to know each other just as much, if not more, than members of our own respective biological families.
I say this a lot, but yes, we live in the future. And apparently, in the future, the “pen pal” has evolved into e-family. I’m okay with that.
Great recap, almost felt part of the fun. So happy to have sponsored such a wild and fun loving bunch of bloggers. Next year I plan on being part of the pack, consider yourself forewarned
I still wish there was a Lady Marmalade group song with Ben playing Christina Aguilera.
Next time. Next time
Hey sister, soul sister..gotta get that dough sista.
Sounds like you guys all had a great time!
Wow. So beautifully put, missy! I love the way you write.
Oh, and you’re not bad either.
I now have a legit reason to come to Boulder!
xo
seriously love this recap and absolutely loved hanging out with you over the weekend. it was just so fun and ah and i really need to make my way to boulder stat!
VEGAS…ah…love that you do this every year! And love that we were there at the same time! My heart thumped “don-i-ree” once or twice while there, and I thought “weeeeird”…but NOW it makes sense. Completely. And I’m thinking I’ll work it out to be here for Saturday and head out to camp on Sunday! Yay…bon fire!
YOU WERE IN VEGAS THIS WEEKEND?! Shame on me for not knowing that! Hope to see you tomorrow! What the WHAT were you doing there?!
You are adorable and I’m so glad to have met you! Until next year (in person), my friend!
Loved this post- and i’m beyond grateful that yo decided to take the roadtrip journey with me- I adore the time I get to spend with you and our friendship means the world, THE WORLD TO ME. Love this post, we are family, all of us in a weird, twisty, nerdy cute and unconditional way. LOVE.
I can’t even being to tell you how in love I am with this post. Warms my heart and melts my little soul. I love the building of relationships and friendships, and of course, your desert dancer pose
(You’re right Ben, I am going to hit you.)
Seriously love love loved meeting you! What a sweet recap.
LOVE it! It’s amazing how friendships grow and grow and whenever you see each other, it’s amazing. I’m SO happy to hear that Vegas was amazing, and I look forward to hanging out with you sometime soon!
It sounds like you had a hell of a time there–again! It’s really remarkable how quickly online friendships flourish, and how actually meeting people just confirms awesomeness.
After all of these wonderful posts I am finding a way to make it next year! Looks like you had a phenomenal time.
Best,
Hannah Katy
LOVED our conversations. And seeing your face again. And dancing randomly by the Bellagio fountains while waiting for them to go off… which they never did. And well… everything!!
<3
And this is one of the reasons why I blog. People don’t understand how many amazing people you meet through blogging.
Is it next year yet? <3
I am SO jealous! It sounds like it was such a fabulous time and a great way to meet so many wonderful people of the blogging world.
Hola chicas…
I’m somehow meeting you all next year wherever the universe will take you. Here is an idea …. Why don’t you all come to Colombia for a nice and relaxing week in my favorite beach Tolu?
I have been writing a Colombia travel blog for about 4 months and is just incredible the beauty of this tool. I’ve met the most amazing people and as you, some of them I haven’t met yet in person. For instance I met T&T a New Yorker couple that have moved to Bogota and they even did a post on my blog as guest bloggers… I tell you blogging just changed my life.
Anyway… besos from Colombia!
Marcela
