These are [some of] my girlfriends.  Aren’t they gorgeous?

The video blogging begins

Remember when I said I was going to dive into more video blogs and posts and just actual live footage of my life?  Well, I’ve finally started.  I’ve at least started going through the videos I’ve shot up until this point and am using those as my test footage for learning how to use iMovie (which I’m OBSESSED with now).  I spent my Sunday sick on the couch, head too cloudy to write, body too lethargic to clean/pack, so I vegged out and uploaded pictures and played with videos all day instead.

This first one here is from my going away party on Saturday night.  My friends all got together to eat and drink and play SingStar (trust me, NO ONE sings Wilson Phillips’ “Hold On” like Steph and Beth do), and Sean even showed up to surprise me!  I only wish my reaction had been captured, as my girlfriend Beth told me it was absolutely priceless.

In order of appearance, we have Bridget, Little Beth, Allan, Jeremy, Bill, Sean, Tall Beth, and Will.

Song credits: The Asteroid Galaxy Tour, “Around the Bend”

To my Minnesota crew,

Thank you Allan and Steph for organizing and hosting the party, and for being the best friends a girl could ask for.  Thank you, Sean, for surprising me and bringing your awesome sister and Mama Brown’s ridiculously amazing brownies, and thank you to all of my friends here for being so supportive and amazing.  I love y’all.

Oh! And remember these two things:

  1. You promised you’d come visit me in Colorado.
  2. You consented to being posted here :)

~ Doniree

I’ll post more videos over the next couple of days – the fun part is, knowing a little about how to edit these now makes me want to keep taking video!  This is a good thing.

Love it. You need to hand me over some balls so I can create some of my own Vlogs. Mine never look natural!

Some of the best advice I've gotten so far (from
phampants<http://phampants.wordpress.com>)
was just to shoot and shoot and overshoot, knowing you can edit later. I
didn't use near the footage I had available to me for these videos, but with
iMovie, I was able to pick clips that worked for what I was doing. I think
pham's advice to just get too much material means you'll have a lot to work
with. Now, the next thing I need to work on is being comfortable talking TO
the camera in one of these. Baby steps!

You did that with iMovie? YEEESH. The “video” I did for my friends with iMovie could've have used an effect. Or two.

Looking forward to more video in the future. My advice – especially when filming yourself – is to just go for it. When you try to script things it gets awkward and loses it's meaning. Just go with it, and if you need to do some editing, go ahead – although everything I've done has been 100% ad-libbed, for better or for worse, right?
