Pleased to Meet Me*

by doniree on November 8, 2009

Well, HELLO there!

Things look at little different here, eh?  I’ve been toying with the idea of a new layout, but with some pretty specific goals in mind.  In the interim (or for real, I haven’t decided yet), I decided to check out Thesis and see if I couldn’t get what I wanted out of this supposedly super-uber-omg-wowsers-customizable theme template.  So far?  I’m definitely a fan (like, I can’t stop tinkering with it!), but I’ll ask that you bear with me as I tweak and test really fun things like column widths and hyperlink hover colors.

Pleasepleaseplease let me know your feedback.  Easier to read?  Is it that obvious that I can’t match colors to save my life?  Leave nice feedback in the comments (so I look cool), and share things you hate constructive feedback by email.  Ok fine, you can leave that in the comments, too.  I can take it.

Thanks!

Nice to Meet You / Nice to See You Again

I’ve noticed a few new readers peepin’ around here, so I thought I’d just give a quick holler and give you a quick little overview of the girl behind the blog.  My about section‘s pretty decent (if I do say so myself), but I’ll save you the leg work (mouse work?) of scrolling all the way up there and clicking through with these tasty little morsels:

Name: Doniree Walker (pronounced: Donna-REE)
Age: 26 (DOB is May 5, if you wanna go ahead and put that on your calendar)
Topics Often Covered: yoga, cheese plates, things that get a little warm fuzzy feeling, how much I love the community and connections-building nature of social media, relationships, blogging, and following your dreams
Guilty Pleasures: port wine in the wintertime, tiramisu, iTunes, busy coffee shops, t-shirt sheets, pretty scarves, rockbands with European accents, laceless sneakers, champagne, brunch, champagne brunches, stolen kisses, Google Reader, lululemon groove pants, Jimmy Stewart movies, and white boy indie or punk rock.

Wanna keep up with all that?

Subscribe to the RSS feed!  PLEASE NOTE new feed addresss; this means that if you’re already a subscriber, you will need to change or update that (sorry for the hassle; thank you in advance).  Simply click on this pretty little picture here, and choose your RSS Reader of choice (I heart Google Reader), and ta-da! Doniree at your fingertips.

Finally, if you’ve been hanging around for a little while and like what you see here, check this out:

Some of my own inspirers were so kind as to nominate me for a couple of Mashable’s Open Web Awards… awards – Best Blogger to Follow and Most Inspiring Blogger to Follow.  I’m so honored and flattered!  I’ve never really been up for anything like this before. So, if you dig this and agree with any of that, why don’t you click on through and share that thought?  If not, then stick around and I’ll try a little harder to win you over ;-)

Here, I’ll make it easy for you:

So! Whaddya think?

I think you’re all gorgeous.  Have a lovely week!

*Props to anyone who knew this is the title of one of my favorite albums by The Replacements.

One of my best musician friends has a fantastic way of thinking about music instruments — he tells you how to make certain noises, but he explains the mechanics behind how the soundwaves are formed with literal science assisted by analogies. This way, you understand the musical instrument on a more “essence” level than simply a “function” level.

And then he taught me how to make electronic music. Mind = blown.

Never really had a cheerleader as a teacher before, though. I wonder: if I taught you how to play the drums, how you'd teach that to someone else?

I have the same problem – the site is too wide viewing from Windows in Firefox. The masthead looks stretched out.

Oh, and I sorta liked the last masthead, with the picture of your (?) legs against a brick wall. It had a little more personality to it.

Otherwise, nice redesign. I wish I were as skilled in web design as you are.

Thank you! I'll take all that into consideration and get those tweaks worked
out. I debated rotating the headers too, so I appreciate the feedback on
that! I included that photo in my rotating photos, but it won't always come
up.

Not that skilled in web design, but thanks :) I used the Thesis theme (which
is INCREDIBLE), and know enough in terms of how to hack things up, but I'm
not much for doing things from scratch.

Thank you though!
