One of my favorite things about Chicago is that every time I go back, I start to familiarize myself even further with the city. This started the first time I went to visit Meggie in Naperville back in 2003, and continues with this last trip.
Last time I was in Chicago (in June), I managed to get myself around with some help mostly from DShan getting me at least on the right train, headed in the right direction.
This time, with a little help from Twitter and the public transportation feature on Google Maps, I managed to get around on my own.
I found myself in neighborhoods that I recognized and could navigate (Wicker Park!), got myself around in cabs, and managed to be on time to the Nintendo dinner, the Cubs game, the architectural boat tour, and brunch on Sunday morning.
I was fortunate enough to stay at the Crowne Plaza because Matt is kind of a travel whore and hooked Rebekah and I up with a suite deal (har har) he got. The hotel’s at Halsted and Madison, and the 8 bus runs North/South on Halsted. I took this to Wrigleyville and back for the Cubs game and on my way back to the hotel, I noticed this bar.
We spent a great and memorable time here when I was in town last. We greeted Rachel, met new people, spilled drinks (oops), had great conversations, discussed tattoos, narrated a phenomenon that may or may not be a myth (this is so up for debate still), and hopped into cabs from that crazy intersection and headed onto the next bar.
I love this city, and I love how comfortable I am becoming there. I truly, TRULY wish Minneapolis had the kind of public transportation that Chicago does. For a city that’s a few times our size, I think that’s a big part of the reason that Chicago feels so much smaller and so much more connected. It’s so easy to get from somewhere to somewhere else.
I have more pictures from the past weekend that include beautiful girls (and a handsome guy!) at the Nintendo/BrandAboutTown dinner, my first ever Cubs game (and Cubs win!), and the architectural boat tour.
Stay tuned

I love Chi-town too! Maybe we should all pack up and move there. I'd be game for that.
HA! I actually job-searched there last summer, but to no avail. Let's do it. Ready, set, PACK.
I have always wanted to go to Chicago. I have a friend who lives just outside the city and she always talks about how there is always something different to do.
I'm a spit away from Philadelphia and though they do have decent transportation, sometimes I wish it was easier to navigate. I always have so much admiration for my friends in the city who can tell me in one breath how to get from point A to point B by turning left, right, left left right. It feels more like a cheat to a video game than directions, sometimes
Sounds like a lovely time. I enjoy Chicago and all of the smaller enclaves they have, great places to shop, the buildings and all that there is to marvel!
Did you know Emmit’s Pub was in the first scene of Ocean’s 11 (I think it was that one)??? Great neighborhoody pub. That’s the wonderful thing about Chicago … there’s downtown where all the tourists go, but then there’s the downtown with all the neighborhood gems that are a bit untouched. Glad you’re discovering the underbelly to this fine city!

I've never really explored Chicago, but I look forward to the day I can. I keep hearing wonderful things about it!Also, what is this myth that may or may not be up for debate?
