No, seriously. They are. Just take a look.
Ok, so they’re also a little goofy.
If you’ve ever spent any significant amount of time with me, you’ve heard me say the words “happy place,” when I’m having a particularly awesome moment. Give me a glass of sangria on a patio somewhere? Happy place. Exploring a new city with wide eyes and my camera? Happy place.
So, to say that last Monday night, I was in a happy place would be the understatement of the century.
There are few things* that make me happier than bringing different people from different groups, backgrounds, and places together and watching new relationships form.
*Tiramisu, the sound of a champagne bottle opening, champagne itself, first kisses, outdoor music, and beaches
My girlfriend Ashley tells me this is so not girl behavior in that I’ve never been the least bit territorial about sharing my friends, and in fact – I WANT you to meet my high school best friend, my college best friend, my favorite former coworkers, my roommates, my new blog friends and then make them YOUR new best friends.
No joke.
So, last Monday when the day finally came to get everyone together for the Nintendo Girlfriends Guide to Gaming, I was in my element. To be honest, I barely sat still longer than a few minutes at a time (priorities when I did were to eat and then to figure out how to use the external camera on the DSi), because I was so busy flitting about from group to group playing hostess – even though I really didn’t have to DO anything.
(Thank you, Nintendo for the awesome food, the hot girls that showed us how to do everything, and the token European bartender that kept my champagne flute full and my heart a-flutter. As Emily pointed out, good call on knowing who you were dealing with here, Nintendo.)
In this room full of amazing women, I had Ashley, who vies for the title of My Oldest Friend. We went to high school together, transferred to the University of Minnesota at the same time (2003), pursuing the same degree (Psychology), and still see each other at least once a week or so.
There are college girlfriends who have seen the growth that happens between 20 years old and 26 years old and have stood by me through all of it.
There two girls I used to work with – Brit and Erin – who were coworkers turned friends and now my fellow Twilight fangirls.
There are roommates – three of the most unique and amazing women I have EVER met – who make 20-something city living an absolute dream come true.
There are friends of friends who are quickly becoming MY friends, who I am so lucky to know.
And there are women like Kellie, Kaeti, and Emily who I’d have never met if it weren’t for this this whole social media thing.
I hope at least a new friendship or two was formed as a result of this party, but either way – I am so overjoyed that I got to have all of this awesome in one room at one time and that they got to leave with goodies and games.
My girlfriends are hot. And are freaking amazing women.
And they seem to think I’m pretty alright myself. (Could be the Awesome Free Stuff they get, but I’m going to go with they think I’m cool, too):
Thanks to everyone who came, drank, played, socialized, giggled, and signed my board here – Ladies, your words were too kind. ![]()
