Art Brut famously said,
DC Comics and chocolate milkshakes, somethings will always be great.
Ok, so I wouldn’t go so far as to say it was uttered famously, but Art Brut did recently release a new album (Art Brut vs. Satan) which did contain a single (DC Comics And Chocolate Milkshake
) that did utter this genius line.
The next line follows up with:
Even though I’m 28.
At first, I was like DUDE, Mr. Brut, please. Just because you’re 28 doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate things like DC Comics and chocolate milkshakes. I drink chocolate milk at least 4 mornings a week, it’s FINE. And while I don’t *read* DC Comics, I do appreciate a good comic book movie.
So then I decided that you can’t put an age limit on the things that will *always* be great. For me, these things include (but are not limited to):
- gummy worms
- swingsets
- Judy Blume
- root beer
- running barefoot through sprinklers
What’s on your list? I don’t care how old you are, what’s still cool?

You KNOW I loved running around barefoot as a kid. Seriously. It's obvious I grew up in the South.
- honeysuckle
- swimming at the local pool
- Goldfish and Cheezits (is that how you spell it?)
- baseball in the front yard
- dribbling the basketball to my aunt and uncle's house a mile away
And so, so much more…
Your southern childhood sounds like mine! We had honeysuckle bushes in our yard and to this day, the smell STILL reminds me of playing in the dirt and running around outside.
i HATE root beer. with a passion. it's steves favorite and he's constantly switching out drinks out. i might hate him a little for that one.
i just had spagetti os for dinner last night. yeah, because i'm like… five years old.
I love spaghetti-o's. Nothing wrong with that.
Peanut butter sandwiches
Dewey grass between my toes
Chocolate chip cookies with milk
Classic Disney movies
Classic Disney movies FTW! Do you remember watching Aladdin and The Lion King OVER AND OVER at Grama's to the point where we could quote the WHOLE movie?! I do.
That's a tough one
I used to think I would never outgrow video games, but other than Wii and Guitar Hero/Rock Band I rarely play them.
Action movies, especially comic book movies are always great,.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joes, and Hot Wheels. I still get excited when I see them. Someday I'm going to start collecting them again.
I have a few kids books I still read once in a while, The Phantom Tollbooth, The Summer of the Monkeys, anything by Brian Jacques.
I'm still a huge fan of Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers. And the classic Nintendo, of course.
For me?
Rock Candy.
Legos.
Sidewalk Chalk.
Dozens of other things I'm not remembering right now.
Rock candy, YES!
DQ chocolate milkshakes…
