Meet My Roommates

I thought it’d be a fun feature to share funny things my roommates say, but I am a) not organized enough for a “regular” feature, and b) can’t predict when they’ll be funny (though it is often).

Instead, I bring you the sporadically scheduled, likely random, new feature:

Meet My Roommates

A brief intro (they gave me permission to use their real names, so no elusive nicknames or initials):

  • Sasha is a legislative assistant, living and breathing Minnesota politics, and is also in grad school pursuing a master’s in Urban Planning.  She likes the same awesome music I do and is the one to thank for Premo always being stocked in the house.
  • Angie (Bang) is a former junior scientist at the UMN with a degree in Human Genetics and Cell Development who is going back to school to better the world by becoming a nurse.  She makes nerdy look damn good.
  • Allison is the loud-mouthed red head who lives for MN hockey and Mich Golden Draft Light.  She’s going for a teaching degree with a focus on Special Needs kids.

My house is NEVER boring.  Not even when those three are holed up in their rooms studying and I’m drinking a bottle of wine by myself and watching the Food Network.  Ok, that’s pretty close to my idea of a successful Friday night.

And proof that they’re nerds:

Sasha: I LOVE my State and Local Funding class.  I know that sounds super dorky, and I’m probably like, the only one, but I LOVE it!
Me: Well, your job makes that pretty relevant, right?  I mean, you live and breathe this stuff.
Sasha:  True.  Oh!  This must be what a Genetics lab is like for Angie.

Well anyway.  In an effort to diversify my topics to things other than food and my Test Kitchen, I’ve decided to tell more roommate stories.

I took a State and Local funding class at the Humphrey a few years ago. It was a very awesome class.

Almost makes me miss having roommates… But then I remember that I am really an introvert and like both my alone time and my cat. A little sad? Perhaps, but it makes me happy.
